Melania Trump is a good-looking woman. This is a fact. Sometimes she is even gorgeous. And there is no denying that clothes look great on her. For me, she has a a strange look in her eyes and comes across as self-absorbed and aloof. And she has really bad taste in men. But a gay icon?
I actually choked on my tea when I read about this “honor” bestowed on the former first lady by the Log Cabin Republicans (LRC) – an organization “representing LGBT conservatives and straight allies who support fairness, freedom, and equality for all Americans.”
I hate hypocrisy. Immediately I saw that khaki jacket … you know the one?

Heart of a Mother
In a surreal, cringeworthy three-minute video, the group praised the former model for her fashion sense and having the “heart of a mother” but failed to mention what she has done to support the LGBTQI community.

As we see from the invitation, the Spirit of Lincoln gala took place at Mar-a-lago.
Leading the tribute was Trump’s former ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, who gushed: “From the moment I met first lady Melania Trump at the beginning of the Trump administration, I knew our community had an advocate.
“I’m not so sure where she got her passion for equality, but it was there, and it was real,” he claimed. “Maybe it’s because she’s the most international first lady we’ve ever had? She speaks so many languages, understands so many cultures, appreciates diversity.”
Support for Gay Community
Their video lauds Melania Trump as “the first Republican first lady ever to support our community.” Not really much of an accomplishment considering Democrat first ladies have been supporting gay rights going all the way back to Rosalynn Carter in 1976.
As far as I can see, besides firing her gay staffer for having a ‘lively Grindr account’ it is unclear what the 51-year-old Slovene-American has done for the LGBTQI community.
Remember, Trump portrayed himself as friendly to gay rights in his 2016 presidential campaign but that seemed to lose emphasis during his administration, to say the least.
What a convenient location for the former fist lady who has been keeping a low profile since leaving the White House – after all Mar-a-Lago is her home. She tweeted about how honored she was to join the Log Cabin posse for their annual Spirit of Lincoln Gala. She said: “Thank you for recognizing my work & for highlighting those who have exemplified a commitment to the LGBT community. A beautiful evening celebrating unity!”
Now, if they are talking about model Melania Knauss and her rather delicious 1997 girl on girl photos for France’s Max Magazine, we could probably regard this as a worthy contribution to the LGBTQI community, in particular the “L” part of the equation.
The lesbian-themed pics are from a two-day photo shoot in Manhattan in 1996, when the then Melania Knauss, was 25 years old and modeling under the name “Melania K.” The photographer was Jarl Ale de Basseville, a Paris artist and fashion photographer who was briefly based in New York in the mid-’90s.
The story was featured in the New York Post on 1 August 2016.
The raciest of the photos shows Melania lying nude in a bed as Scandinavian model Emma Eriksson, also naked, embraces her from behind, just below her breasts, which are fully exposed.
Handcuffs, Diamonds and a Chrome Pistol
While I’m in the Melania mood, my thoughts drift off to the GC Feature in November 2016 which also showed off plenty of Donald Trump’s then girlfriend Melania Knauss. And to think, now she is the Spirit of Lincoln 2021 winner!
In this mostly naked profile shoot on his customized Boeing 727 she is shot in various poses, wearing handcuffs, wielding diamonds and holding a chrome pistol.
I’m no prude and I’m certainly not against nude/arty or racy photos of anybody.
I’m just trying to find out what Melania ever did for the LGBTQI community besides looking fabulous.
In the words of another former president, Abraham Lincoln,
“There are no bad pictures; that’s just how your face looks sometimes.”
So, here’s to you Mrs Trump.
